The American Pain Society has adopted a three-part agenda to guide its national advocacy efforts. The focus is on enhancing NIH funding for pain research, removing barriers to effective clinical pain management, and providing evidence and analysis to illuminate controversies surrounding opioid use and abuse. For each major goal, specific objectives and strategies have been developed. Collectively, these constitute the APS Advocacy Agenda.

It is anticipated that the National Pain Care Policy Act will be reintroduced in 2007 and a new Military and Veterans Pain Care Act is also in preparation. Summaries of the provisions of these bills will be posted here after they are introduced.
