Kathleen M. Foley Journalist Award

Alice Park

Alice Park is a staff writer at TIME. Since 1993, she has reported on the breaking frontiers of health and medicine in articles covering issues such as AIDS, anxiety and Alzheimer's disease. Park has received two CASE media fellowships — the first in 2000 to Harvard Medical School, where she designed a program focused on the latest understanding of AIDS, and the second in 2003 to UCLA's Medical School, where she researched the growing number of clinical applications of genomic research. In addition, Park's work has been recognized with awards of excellence from the National Arthritis Foundation as well as the National Headache Foundation.

John Cloud

John Cloud is a senior writer at TIME magazine and TIME. He has won multiple awards, including a National Press Club prize in 2005 for his political journalism. Now he covers health and science for the magazine. He is the host of "The Healthland Podcast" and writes Healthland's Lab Rat column.

Claire Suddath

Clare Suddath is a writer-reporter at TIME who covers health, lifestyle and Internet topics.  She earned a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University.

The award is named for Dr. Foley in recognition of her contributions to furthering professional and public understanding about the need for effective cancer and end-of-life pain management. She is an attending neurologist for the Pain and Palliative Care Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, and director of the Project on Death in America sponsored by the Open Society Institute.
