Nine prominent pain and well-being experts have endorsed this book on its first four pageswhat else is there for me to say? I think it is superb as a guide for parents with a child who suffers from chronic pain. Zeltzer has a pain management rather than interventionalist approach; she is eclectic, pragmatic, and easy to read. There are appendices with a glossary, a listing of pediatric pain treatment programs, books, and Web sites. The book is broader than chronic pain itself and discusses psychological and developmental issues as they may be related to chronic pain. The authors have touched upon a wide array of topics without delving too deeply into any one of them; for this reason it is an easy read, and one can cover much ground quickly. The biopsychosocial model is certainly alive and well at University of California, Los Angeles. I have not seen a better book for families about pediatric chronic pain and its management.
