This Web site is the home of the American Headache Society. Although the site verbiage informs visitors it is intended for healthcare professionals, patient-related materials are available and easily downloadable in the Headache Resources section. The site directs patients to the AHS-affiliated organization, the American Council for Headache Education (www.achenet.org).
Detailed information on the Scottsdale Headache Symposium (including an online registration option) is accessible on the home page. The registration process appears to be quite user friendly. The home page also features information about the societys Neurology Ambassador CME Program. An interesting feature of this site is the art museum, featuring more than 40 downloadable artists renderings of headache sufferers. This is an excellent resource for slides. The Medical Education section, which includes five issues of the AHS newsletter, Headache Profiles (a series of clinical vignettes), is another rich educational and research resource. Presentation-ready slides accompany each case study.
The opening page provides a link to a society membership application (it is a downloadable PDF file). A strong feature is access to the journal Headache, the official journal of the American Headache Society. You can access any abstract or full journal article published between 1996 and the present (PDF format). The more recent issues are also available in HTML. Article search is facilitated through the Synergy search engine of Blackwell Science publishers. A second search engine initiates searches based on key terms. A members-only section provides access to a list of the current board of directors, business meeting minutes, a fellow application, a headache forum, a headache library, a member directory, and a section for special interest groups.
In summary, this is a very user-friendly site with extensive clinical and research resources. Although primarily designed for the healthcare professional, limited patient materials are available. It is a site that should be bookmarked by pain professionals who want rapid and reliable access to headache resources.
