Reviewed by John D. Loeser, MD

D.S. Watson, Mosby, St. Louis, 1998, 262 pages, $29.95 (softcover), ISBN 0-8151-9265-7

This is a thorough review of conscious sedation written by and for nurses. It contains information on all aspects of this topic and will also be of value to physicians and administrators who are involved with issues of optimal patient care. Each chapter is thoroughly referenced, and there are a serviceable index and many useful tables. The writing style is lucid and focused on the theme. There is consideration of the varying state rules and regulations, as well as the medical and nursing issues. For those who use conscious sedation in their practice, this book will be a most valuable reference. It is a job well done.
