This pocket-sized guide is designed to assist in the prescription of oral analgesic agents in acute care inpatient settings. Patient care will improve if this book, with its useful tables and references, is widely distributed throughout our hospitals. The editors and contributors have all done a good job producing a practical and easy-to-read source for the information needed to control acute pain with drugs. In their introduction, the authors recognize pain is not just a deficiency of narcotics and NSAIDs, but they choose to omit information on treatment strategies other than drugs. I hope the second edition of this nice book will have a broader selection of treatment strategies.
This useful guide is available from the Greater Philadelphia Pain Society, PO Box 445, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004. Discounts are available for bulk purchases.
