The American Pain Society's Scientific Program Committee invites the submission of abstracts for papers and posters to be presented at the 28th Annual Scientific Meeting of the APS, May 7 - May 9, 2009, in San Diego, California.
Important Dates
Submission
The submission deadline for the Call for Paper and Poster Abstracts has been
reached. Primary authors will be notified of their abstract(s) status in
January, 2009.
This is an electronic submission system. The system is compatible with PCs and Macintosh computers.
Paper/Poster abstracts previously presented or published may not be submitted to APS without modification. Data must be updated or expanded, resulting in a new abstract.
The primary author will be asked to sign an Abstract Submission Agreement which confirms that the primary author agrees to grant APS unrestricted, irrevocable permission to publish the abstract in printed material and in an online searchable database.
APS expects that the primary author will present original data at the meeting if the abstract is accepted for inclusion in the APS proceedings. APS reserves the right to withdraw the abstract if it is published or presented elsewhere prior to the APS meeting. The primary author retains the abstract's copyright, and anyone wishing to use the abstract after the APS meeting will be instructed to contact the primary author for permission.
Paper abstracts will be presented during concurrent session time blocks throughout the annual scientific meeting. Posters will be presented on either Thursday, May 7 OR Friday, May 8, 2008. Presentation times will be assigned at the time the abstract is accepted; authors cannot request a specific presentation date/time. Prior to submission of a paper or poster, at least one author must agree to attend the APS meeting and to participate as the paper or poster presenter. The designated presenter must be named as the primary author or as a co-author on the abstract/study. APS will not waive the registration fee for presenters. Presenters are responsible for all personal expenses (e.g., travel, hotel) for the day they present and for conference registration fees. Presenters must register for at least the day they present. Presenters are encouraged to register for the meeting and to reserve hotel accommodations as early as possible to ensure that space is available.
Presentations must avoid commercialism and should conform to accreditation standards for commercial support. Presentations that constitute promotion and advertising will not be accepted, including pervasive or inappropriate use of logos. No company product information may be displayed or disseminated in conjunction with the presentation. If the author(s) received any funding for this research, a clear acknowledgment of support should be included in the abstract, e.g., Supported by a grant from ABC Pharmaceuticals.
It is essential that each author select a theme (topic) for the abstract being submitted. This information is used for the appropriate grouping of papers and posters at the annual meeting as well as for indexing purposes and publication in The Journal of Pain.
Paper and poster submissions will be reviewed and rated by members of the Scientific Program Committee who have expertise in the research or clinical area to which the submission belongs. Each submission will be reviewed for its scientific or clinical importance, ethical practice, and study design.
APS does not accept late-breaking abstracts. All submissions must be received by the October 27, 2008 deadline.
Notification of Acceptance or Rejection of Submissions
An alphabetical list of primary authors' names will be posted on the APS web site, www.ampainsoc.org in January, 2009. This will be an author's first opportunity to learn whether an abstract was accepted or rejected for presentation, and in what format.
Papers
Primary authors on paper submissions will be notified in January of 2009 (by mail) of their abstract's acceptance or rejection. All authors on submissions considered for paper presentation will be required to complete a disclosure form; details will be included with the notification letter.
