The purpose of this SIG is to provide a forum to discuss challenges and advances in the methods of conducting clinical trials of analgesics and related agents. The areas of interest within this SIG will include outcomes measurement, biostatistics, clinical pharmacology, bioethics, patient recruitment, electronic data capture, human experimental pain models, proof-of-concept trials, PK-PD modeling, patient recruitment, measurement of tolerance and addiction, psychological aspects of clinical trials, placebo effects, etc.
The next SIG meeting will be held on Thursday 19th May from 5-6 pm at the 2011 APS conference in Austin, TX.
The Clinical Trials SIG has planned two presentations at the 2011 APS Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas. James N. Campbell, MD will speak on “Methodological Challenges with the Evaluation of Topical Treatments for Peripheral Neuropathic Pain” and Najib Babul, PharmD will speak on “Recent Advances in Opioid Therapy for Chronic Pain”
