What is your area of specialty?
I'm an outcomes researcher. My interests include the epidemiology, economics, and patient-reported outcomes related to pain.

What initially sparked your interest in working in your field? Briefly describe your career path.
As a pharmacist, I often saw people who were being treated for pain, but I knew very little about pain management beyond some of the basics, despite being interested in this field. After completing a pharmacoeconomic research fellowship, I had the opportunity to study the consequences of postoperative pain with Dan Carr at the New England Medical Center, where I found my niche. Then, during my PhD training, I worked with other clinicians and researchers on postoperative and cancer pain studies. Since coming to the University of Texas, I've continued to focus on pain-related outcomes research and health policy.

Who is your favorite role model—and why?
I've been fortunate to have worked with many outstanding mentors and colleagues, particularly Dan Carr and Sean Sullivan, who were instrumental in helping me become a clinical outcomes researcher.
