I have no idea why this book was sent to APS for review in the APS Bulletin. Do not buy it. Although I find no fault with the author’s holistic approach and concerns about the excesses of allopathic medicine, putting conductive tape on the skin to channel chi is beyond the pale, especially when the tape is purchased from the author. He misrepresents medical knowledge, knows little about scientific methods, and claims authority by dedication of the book to an assemblage of greats, both dead and alive. The organizing principle of this book is truth by allegation.
Dr. Loeser is Professor of Neurological Surgery and Anesthesiology at the University of Washington, Seattle.
