Larijani, PharmD Site AudienceThis is the home of the American Society of Pain Management Nurses (ASPMN). ASPMN is an organization of nurses dedicated to promoting and providing optimal care of individuals with pain. ASPMN strives to accomplish these goals through education, standards setting, advocacy, and research. ASPMN publishes position statements and standards and promotes effective communications among its members. Its Web site is devoted to nursing issues related to pain. Content AppraisalThis site is relatively simple. It features a mission statement, member resources, membership information, information about annual meetings and local chapters, and policy and advocacy content. The member resources section includes grant applications, awards, and links to selected Web sites. In addition, presentations from annual meetings (2002 and 2003) and selected presentations from the World Congress on Pain (2003) are located in this area of the site. The membership information section includes an issue of Pain Management Nursing, which is accessible to site visitors. This site is easy to use and is most useful for nurses interested in or specializing in pain management. The site does not have a search engine, but it is fully accessible to anyone. RecommendationsThis site will be most useful to ASPMN members as a source of general information, but it also may be of value to nonmembers interested in nursing-related pain issues. Limited educational material and Web links to more general information on pain and pain management are provided. Most of this sites information is general in nature and involves membership, the annual meeting, and position statements. Some useful educational information is provided for nurses practicing in pain management. Reviewer content represents the opinion of the reviewer, not APS.
