PublicationsAPS Bulletin Volume 16, Number 2, 2006ArticlesCelebrating Excellence: APS BulletinDuring the 25th Annual Scientific Meeting, Peter Vicente, PhD, retired from his position as APS Bulletin Editor. He served the society in that capacity for nearly a decade.
Peter Vicente has made innumerable and outstanding contributions to the American Pain Society (APS). In addition to serving as society president and on many committees and task forces over the years, he was the founding editor and, other than for a brief period, the editor in chief of the APS Bulletin. Under Peters direction, the APS Bulletin has become an outstanding source of professional, scientific, and societal information. Peter recognized from the beginning that the APS Bulletin would serve as an important vehicle for communicating with the diverse membership of APS. Under Peters direction, the APS Bulletin has become much, much more than a newsletter, containing not only APS news but also innovative and timely discussion about the science of pain and the practice of pain management. The APS Bulletin has truly become the voice within APS and beyond.
With sincerest appreciation for your contribution on behalf of APS and myself. Dennis C. Turk, PhD Peter Vicente should be remembered for taking the APS Bulletin to a whole new level of scholarship, innovation, and relevance. He took this publication far beyond the typical professional society newsletter by including innovative columns and substantive articles. Peters time was donated to the benefit of APS and all who read the APS Bulletin. We will miss him and his excellent leadership. Mark Sullivan, MD PhD Peter Vicente was the first editor of the APS Bulletin. This sophisticated publication began as a basic newsletter, but Peter could not resist thinking outside the box and proceeded to transform it. The interdisciplinary and translational nature of the APS Bulletin, along with its readability and inherent appeal, are among Peters many contributions to APS and significantly shape his legacy. For about 5 years, I replaced Peter as editor. Although I enhanced the APS Bulletin in small ways and adapted it to keep pace with changing times, I was never able to improve on its basic design and mission. Much to my delight, Peter could not resist resuming his former position when I retired as editor. Under his direction, the APS Bulletin has continued to thrive. The APS Bulletin is one of the major perks of APS membership. I have never seen a more engaging professional society publication. The APS Bulletin embodies who we are as a complex professional community. The membership is indebted to Peter for the unique character and quality of the APS Bulletin. C. Richard Chapman, PhD Peter has been the guiding force behind the very successful APS Bulletin for almost a decade. He has assembled a first-rate crew to produce this important resource for APS members. He is a problem solver who gets the job done quietly, but effectively. It has been a delight to be on his team. John D. Loeser, MD APS extends gratitude and appreciation to the following editorial board members who served between 1991 and May 2006. Robert T. Angarola, Esq. |
